Transport Fund
We know that transport costs can often stand in the way of valuable trips and experiences. The Primary Schools Transport Fund exists to make it easier for pupils to explore, discover and learn beyond the classroom.
Helping pupils go further with their learning
This dedicated initiative, created by the Trustees of the Johnson & Mukherjee Brothers Charitable Trust, helps cover the cost of travel for primary school groups taking part in one-off educational trips and activities within the UK.
Our aim is simple
to support enriching experiences that spark curiosity, creativity and confidence in young learners.
Each academic year, the Trust allocates a fund of up to £5,000 per school, available to help them with the cost of coach or minibus transport for approved trips. This fund can be used towards multiple trips per academic year subject to a limit of £1,000 per trip.
Can my school apply?
Yes — if your school meets the criteria, you’re welcome to apply.
We particularly welcome applications for trips that align with classroom learning, support inclusion or give pupils opportunities they might not otherwise have.
You are a state-funded primary school (including infant and junior schools).
How to Apply
Applying is quick and straightforward:

Complete the short application form

Trip details
Provide a few brief details about your school trip — including the destination, its purpose and estimated cost of transport.

Submit your application
We’ll get back to you with a decision typically within 7-10 days.
Awards will be paid after your trip has taken place and once we receive your school’s invoice and any subcontractor invoices.

What we fund
The Transport Fund can contribute towards:
Coach or minibus hire for one-day educational trips
Visits to museums, theatres, outdoor centres, historic sites, or other learning venues
Local enrichment activities that build on school topics or encourage teamwork and creativity
The Fund does not cover:
Overnight or residential trips
Travel outside the UK

After your trip
We love hearing how your pupils benefited from their trip!
Schools are encouraged to send a short note or photo showing the impact of the visit and tagging the Trust into your social media posts. This helps us share your story and inspire other schools to apply.
